Do I need special cable to run outdoor speakers?
We strongly recommend our direct burial, CL3/FT4 waterproof cable and wire connectors that are designed for the outdoors. Our speaker wire uses a specially formulated UV-resistant, white polyethylene jacket that provides protection against water damage and allows the cables to withstand extreme weather conditions like rain, snow and high temperatures and incorporate twice the insulation of average cable. If you plan to bury the cable, OSD recommends you bury it 4-6" underground so that it's not visible nor pose a danger of somebody tripping over it. Our speaker cable is ideal to use in direct burial applications. As for the gauge, for runs up to 100 feet for background music, 16-gauge will be fine. If the run is approaching or exceeding 100 feet, we suggest 14-gauge wire.

    Add Volume Controls
Volume controls can be a great addition to a system providing both proper impedance matching and more hands-on local control of the volume in the listening area. We offer a great selection of outdoor volume controls to choose from!

    Extremely Durable
OSD outdoor speakers are developed with harsh conditions of the outdoors in mind. Our rock speakers use only non-water-absorbing materials and won't absorb any water. This is critical in winter so it won't freeze and crack. The shape is designed to withstand large amounts of pressure, extreme temperatures and moisture. Remember though, outdoor speakers are an investment, so take care of them. Storing them away from extreme weather conditions will only lengthen the time you will get enjoying outdoor speakers. These rock speakers utilize weather-resistant components for years of trouble free performance.

AR • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM Got confused about the spec "Power handling: 300W". Is the power rating: - Continuous (RMS) Power ? - or Program (Music) Power ? - or Peak Power ? I am thinking of getting several of your Rock and Patio speakers and plan power the speakers with QSC amps (GX3, GX5, ..). Understanding the power rating will help in figuring out the combinations.
    Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
Hi AR: Power Hadling on these speakers 300 watts RMS. I would suggest 2 pairs powered by a single QSC GX3 wired in Parallel the amplifier would see around a 4 ohm load creating some 425 watts per channel output from this workhorse. Plenty of output for your outside application. TL
Katherine • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM I am looking at purchasing 2 sets of these rock speakers, I want to connect to my XM Radio will this work for both sets? Do I have purchase the wires for each speaker? How far away can I place the speakers from my XM Radio?
    Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
Katherine, These speakers would be powered with an amp or receiver, you would hook your XM radio here. The speakers would be wired with a direct line for each back to the power source with speaker cable. Up to 100ft 16 gauge-2 conductor is fine. To drive 2 pairs of these speakers, I would recommend our AMP200. I hope that helps. Hi Katherine: CL is telling you most XM radios are preamp output. The signal has to go through an amplifier to create Speaker Level Output which is the connection for the RS850 Rocks. The AMP200 would be the ideal choice for powering two pair of these Rock Speakers. TL
Bob • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM How far apart can these speakers be placed to still have good stereo sound?
    Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
Bob, Placement ideally would be 8-10 ft apart CL
Tim • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM Why should I buy these instead of the TIC TFS12 which are considerably less money? Thanks
    Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
Hi Tim, The RS850 is the best quality we offer. They are superb at both high and low volumes, with a rich deep bass and the crispest highs. The TIC you mention is a dual voice coil, what is your application? Do you need a single stereo speaker ? CL 1385
