I have a 7 x 140W chan Denon set up in my pool cabana. want to use the 5 channell stereo mode and use 3 speakers.
the speakers will all be around the pool perimeter ans my thought is to have the reciever turned up and allow the use of 3 of your VC's so we can adjust from outside. Thinking your 14/2 cl underground wire.
Also, I will have 3 runs. 1 at 15 feet, another at 150 ' and the other at 100'. Do I have to use the same amount of wire for all? I have been told by friends that I should.

The idea is that having significantly varying lengths in speaker runs could potentially cause an audible delay between the shorter runs and the longer runs, and or could cause a difference in sound quality. You really need to have trained ears to notice these differences if they exist at all. You should be able to do different lengths of wire for each speaker, but if you want to be safe, you can do all the same length.

Have you swapped the speakers to ensure that the problem doesn't follow the speaker and stays on the same channel? If not, try doing that when you have a chance. I know very little about A/V, so I need some help! We just bought a new house that came with some under-deck Bose 151 speakers mounted about 20 feet apart, with wires from each running separately into the house. We connected them to an old Onkyo TX-901 (45W) receiver and they sound great, but we would like an outdoor volume control for convenience. Is the OVC100 the proper volume control for this application? And does it make a difference whether the volume control is located much closer (say 3-4 feet?) to one speaker than the other, or should it be somewhere closer to the middle? Thanks!

Hi Stu,
Yes, the OVC100 would be great for controlling volume in your application. It shouldn't make a noticeable difference if one speaker is further away than the other. This is an impedance matching volume control, which means it's intended for use in applications with multiple pairs of speakers. You can still use this in your application, but an even better option would be the OVC305R, assuming you're just running one pair. Thanks!

I have a new construction home into which I had wired four outdoor speaker outlets, two each on the back porch and the deck, On the back porch is a volume control enclosure (no switch yet) from which six pairs of wires exit...left and right porch, left and right deck and two inputs.
The inputs run back through the walls and terminate behind the wall behind my A/V receiver. Simple, right? What I would like to do is have two volume controls so I can control the volume on the two pairs separately. Can I do that with the wiring as I described?
I assume it would be no problem to control all four with one controller, two inputs and then basically "doubling up" the pairs? As you can see from my question, I am a total newb. Thanks in advance!

I think i understood that correctly, haha! Yes, the OVC300 (not 100) will handle 2 pairs of 8ohm speakers. Just make sure that your amplifier has sufficient wattage to supply 4 speakers without going over the 300 watt limit of the OVC300. Thanks!

I am installing 2 sets of Yamaha speakers, 1 set is NS-AW190BL (120 watt peak, 35 watt rms) and 1 set of Yamaha NS-AW390BL (130 watt peak, 40 watt rms). They will be driven by a Yamaha RX-V377BL amp. I want to have a volume control for each set of speakers. Which ones do you recommend and what should the impedance setting for the volume controls be set at? The speakers that I have are 6ohm. Hello Mickey,
If you will be running each pair of speakers from a separate zone on your receiver, you can use the OVC305R which is not impedance matching, thus you would not need to switch anything. If you use the OVC300 however, keep the impedance at 1/2x.
