al Schroth • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
How do these compare to Polk Atrium 8 and how is the bass end?Thank you
Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
Hi al Schroth:First, the POLK Atrium priced as each; it is a Dual Voice Coil model that has a 16/8 ohm switch. The switch allows you to have a single Stereo Summed Mono Speaker with dual tweeters. You select Dual Input(16-ohm) and connect both the voice coils (left and right input). You will need to purchase a second speaker so you can connect just one voice coil and select Single on the switch on the back (8-ohm). This switch setting will give you a pair of 8" patio speakers each with dual tweeters. Prices online range from $165.33 each to 249.00 each (including free freight for both). I am assuming you are comparing the AP850 stereo pair to a pair of the Atrium 8 SDI. Let's compare specs (Polk/OSD): Sensitivity; 91 dB/90 dB, Power rating RMS; 125W/90W, Low Frequency; 45Hz/33Hz (you asked about Bass). The Polk Atrium 8 SDI features a patent mounting bracket, here is the online description; One-click SPEED-LOCK MOUNTING BRACKET offers EASY, ANTI-SLIP ONE-HANDED INSTALLATION - mount speakers vertically or horizontally, to deliver the best sound. You mount the swiveling C-bracket, adjust the angle, and fasten the speaker with a click. (180-degree swivel). The Locking mounting bracket is an excellent feature for the installer. But our bracket may take longer to install, but our unique bracket also features 180 degrees swivel and a 0-60 degrees tilt for better-aiming flexibility. Both feature Rust-resistant Aluminum Grills.TL/5656

Hi there, I am thinking about putting 2 pairs of these to run 4ohm/channel on a pontoon boat. They will be mounted near the rear of the boat to play music for people being towed behind the boat. Do you anticipate any issues with the application? Thank you
Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
Hi Kevin:I believe the AP650 might be a better choice since they are 100% sealed. The AP850 features two ports so they would not be the best choice for direct exposure to the elements. Two pair of the 8-ohm AP650 (white or Black) wired in Parallel would be 4-ohm, matching your Source/Amp.TL/5675
Dominic • 05/12/2021, 8:13:12 AM
What impedance are the AP850? Would you be able to run in parallel on a Sonos Amp, similar to the Sonance models?
Customer Service • 05/14/2021, 11:47:48 AM
Hi Dominic:
The AP850 are 8-hm, you should have no problem connecting two pair in Parallel with the SONOS 125Watt Black Player Amplifier. It is rated down to 4-ohms which, is the resistance it will see.

Which patio speakers are the best sounding for outdoor TV? I will be listening to some music but mostly watching TV on the back deck? Not sure if I should get the AP-850, BK-P83 or AP-840. Thank you much
Customer Service • 10/22/2021, 0:24:13 AM
Hi Zo:
In order of popularity:
1) AP850 sounds excellent, has good output, and is the best and most flexible mounting bracket
2) P83, a close second, especially with a new lower price. It also sounds very good with a comparable bottom end
3) Great price for entry-level 8" patio, has been in the line for years.
I have had issues with the high frequencies of the Titanium coated tweeter of the AP840.
The AP850 features a dual function mounting bracket that both swivels and tilts adding more flexibility when mounting the speaker.
I always recommend the AP850 unless the speaker is exposed to the natural elements. Both the P83 and AP840 have ported designs, not to be directly exposed to the weather. The AP650 is number one when the speaker will be exposed to the elements.
