This super sturdy, easy to install outdoor volume control can be used for one pair (two speakers). A pure resonance resistor-based volume control, it can handle up to 300 watts of optimal sound with minimal bass roll-off. The control board is prewired and the wires are clearly labeled, making installation easy, and this product can take the rigors of outdoor environments. You can use these along with one of our speaker selectors for a whole-house audio system at an affordable price.

I plan on running three pairs of outdoor speakers off of a Niles SI-2150 amp. All of the speakers will be the same make and model (have yet to decide which speakers we’ll go with, but they will be the same).
The speakers will be wired in parallel bringing the impedance level down to a 2.67 ohm load at the Niles SI-2150 amp.
Obviously all three pairs of speakers will be playing at the same time (which is what we want), however we want to have volume control on each pair of speakers to adjust the listening level as needed OR flat out shut a pair of them off.
Will this OVC305R volume control work best for this application OR do I need to go with the OVC300 impedance matching volume control? Again we want to adjust the volume level of each pair of speakers independently from the others. Included is a rough idea of what I am planning on doing. Thanks!

Hi J,
Is that amplifier high-current and able to run 2ohm loads? If not, it may be risky running that many speakers off of it. We have our AMP200 and AMP300 that are high-current and can run down to a 2ohm load per zone. If it's like that though, then either volume control will work, but you would have most power yielded with the OVC305 since it wouldn't absorb any power to activate the impedance matching.

Would this control unit be sufficient if it was running to an OMNI Sub200 which connects to 2 Niles 6 1/2" rock speakers (RS6PRO) 8ohms? My receiver is a Sony 725w 5.2 channel (STRDH550). On my other channel I would be running a pair of Yamaha 6 1/2" 6ohm speakers (NS-AW390BL). Do you guys think this setup would work and have a good sound around a pool?

Hi Brad,
That should be fine! Always good to run the volume control between the sub and satellite speakers so you can limit the volume on the satellite speakers, allowing you to turn up the volume to the sub to reach its full potential.

I have one pair of outdoor speakers outside and would like to use the existing wire run to hook up another pair of outdoor speakers. Can this be done? I would also like to use two outdoor volume controls to control the levels between both pairs.

Hi Matt,
Are you asking if you can splice a 2nd set of speakers onto the wires that are running to your existing set of speakers? If so, that really depends on the amp/receiver you have powering it. That would give you a 4ohm load, so you would need to have an amp or receiver that can run safely at 4ohms.

I have a Denon AVR-X40000 receiver. Going to install a pair of Definitive Technology AW6500 outdoor speakers in my backyard under the eves of my house. the speakers are 8 ohm and can handle up to 200 watts each. I'm using Audioquest 14/4 speaker wire from the receiver to the speakers. Less than a 100'. Would like to hook up a speaker volume control outside. Which one would you recomend ? Thanks

If this is your only pair of speakers you are powering so you do not have to worry about impedance matching then the OVC-305R (resistor based) volume control with be your best sounding option. It has a little bit better overall frequency response but no Impedance Matching capability that is needed for certain applications. The OVC-300 sacrifices a bit of sound quality but makes up for it with its impedance Matching capability. It is the same with our VKR-120 vs the SVC-300 both for interior use.
So now the question is are you using this Receiver just for these pair of speakers. The amplifier features Front stage R & L, Front Height R & L and Front Wide R & L. It is a 7.2 Receiver with 11 outputs (7 standard and 4 additional effects) It does have Zone 2 and Zone 3 outputs but the are Pre-amp outs that would need an external Amplifier like our AMP 200. Interesting that it does assign the Front Wide R & L for 2 channel playback but you would not be able to have the Home Theater run at the same time as the 2 channels. You can only do that I believe when using Zone 2 or Zone three for three different sources available at the same time but again that would take external amps to power both ZONE 2 and ZONE 3.

I ckd with Denon and they said since my set up in the house is for a 7.1 speaker configuration, I would have to use the surround back channels in Zone 2 or 3. So I'd have to go down to a 5.1 set up and free up the surround back connections. No additional internal chanels available. Or keep the 7.1 set up and use the pre-amp connection with an another amplifier to get the power I need to drive the outdoor speakers.
