I am looking at buying these for my covered patio. What volume controller would you recommend to use with these - the 100W or 300W? I can't remember what my Sony receiver puts out, is it bad to upsize to the 300W when my receiver is only pushing out lets say 50W each? Thanks for you help!

Hi Matt:
You can use either, but it is always better to have the larger Transformers. It is all about when you actually turn the volume down you are redirecting the signal into the Transformers. If you were to have too much rated power than the rating of the Volume Control you would saturate the coils and create distortion and possibly damage the connections of the Volume Control. The safe bet is to always go with the largest choice for it to be most effective when you are attenuating the signal counterclockwise. Most people think they are turning the volume up but this is a passive device. When you set it up you want to adjust your source volume (Receiver or Amplifier) to the highest level, then you have to control to turn the volume down. As CL said the the OVC300 or SVC300 are your best choices depending on your application (outside or inside).

I am trying to decide between the AP525 and AP650 for my screened in porch. The porch is about 20x20 (400 sq feet) and the speakers will be mounted on the outside edge of the porch facing inwards towards the house walls. The porch has a couch about 12-15 ft from the speakers. I am thinking these for the screened in porch and AP650 for the outside and open deck (a bigger space that also has a patio on the end).
Both sets of speakers to have OVC300 Volume controls and all powered via the AMP200 (about 80ft run to speakers).
Ideas? Recommendations?

I like your idea to use the AP525's for your smaller area and AP650's for the larger area. The AP650's are a perfect size and put our quite a bit of bass. The AP525's are plenty loud for your screened porch. You have the right volume control and the perfect amp. This is gonna sound awesome!

I'm in the process of hooking 525s up to a OVC-300 and an AMP-120. So far so good. My question is, how do I try to find the correct volume output from the amplifier so that I get full rotation out of the ovc300? I'm getting distortion at the first click when I set the amplifier's volume too loud. It seems that I can only turn the amplifier's control up to about 40% before I get distortion from the volume controller at it's lowest settings. When I turn ovc300 up to about the 5th click, the distortion seems to disappear, and I can begin to give it some more power from the amp. Should I have purchased a different outdoor volume control (the non-adjustable one?)

Hi Jeff,
Make sure the OVC300 is set to 1/2x internally. It should come this way by default but it's a good idea to double check. To set the volume, turn the OVC300 all the way up. Then from the AMP120 turn the volume up to the maximum level you'll desire for the AP525's. Then turn the volume down to a comfortable level at the OVC300. This way, you have the ability to turn the volume up when you are in the zone.

Can these speakers be paired to a Bose stereo radio?

Hi Al,
The AP525 outdoor speakers are passive devices and must be connected to an amplifier or receiver to operate. If the Bose radio is rated at 8-ohms and includes an amp and powered speaker outputs, then you can use it. If it's simply a radio with RCA connections, you will need a self-powered speaker like our WPA650.
