Can these speaker be mounted horizontally? If so, Woofer out or in?
Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
Hi Rick:
Yes, these speakers can be mounted Horizontal. The rule of thumb up to 10 feet apart Tweeters on the outside and anything over 10 feet apart tweeters on the inside.
Good Luck

We have a rather large patio and garden area that we would like to play music to 50' - 100' or farther. The speakers would be out in the Midwest weather, summer and winter. Is this speaker the most economical choice? How does this one compare to your AP450 for my purpose?
Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
Hi Jill:
The AP525 is a great choice since it and our larger AP650 are both our highest rated weatherproof speakers. Both feature a sealed design and can be exposed to the elements more so than a speaker featuring tuning ports. You will need at least two pair to deliver enough output for your Patio area. Typically you want a stereo pair to be mounted 8 to 190 feet apart. They also feature a unique bracket that both swivels and tilts inward. Please let me know if you need additional help with your setup. We have an area where you can upload your plans along with an explanation of what equipment you intend to use in conjunction with the patio speakers. My contact is tim@osdaudio.com
Good luck

Hi guys,
I would need -6 pairs of speakers (10-12 total) and I have two zones (indoor and on the patio of my restaurant). I read that 70V configuration would best fit my needs.
My question is what amp do I need? Should I get two amps to have 2 different volume levels (indoor and outdoor)? Or should I buy only one bigger amp... but then how to separate zones?
Also, how can I estimate the wattage I need? Is 10-15 watts per speaker loud enough? I have roughly 1,800 sq ft indoor and 2,000sq ft outdoor.
Thanks

Hi Felix:
I see you are thinking of using the AP525 for the outdoor patio/deck. What are looking to use indoors? In-Ceiling or the on-wall patio speaker like the AP525?
I would like to see what your layout looks like and possible image of the areas you want to place your speakers? And what sources are you going to use, Streaming, Connected to your TV's or CD player/iPod? Contact me at tim @osdaudio.com and let me know more about your system.
Looking forward to seeing more of your project.

We do not have an option to protect these under eves, so these would have to be out in the elements. We have tried Yamaha, JBL speakers, and the brackets and grills become rusty over time and are getting chalky from the sun. We get intense sun everyday, and some heavy rain storms. My concern is will the cabinet get yellowed and chalky? And is the hardware able to withstand the elements without getting rusty?
Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
Hi Jonathan:
The AP525 and AP650 are our two highest rated weatherproof speakers; IP6X. They both feature a strong composite cabinet and are 100% sealed. Also includes a unique Mounting bracket that swivels and tilts. Available in black or white.

Are you able to use the AP525 speakers with optional 70v on your home stereo that supplies enough watts, or
do you need a 70v amp to power them?
Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
Hi Carl:
You need a 70V Amplifier to take advantage of the 70V taps on the AP525. Otherwise you use the 8 ohm setting on the AP525. The big advantage of the 70V system is the fact you can run multiple speakers without worrying about the impedance of the speakers that the amplifier has to deal with. 70V is high impedance which relies more on how much wattage you have available. Then you calculate how many speakers and what the 70V tap setting will be for each. That sum total needs less than 80% of the available wattage from your 70V amplifier. This especially helpful on projects where you need to have lots of speakers connected all together. The trade off is Frequency Response and overall sound quality is not as good. Ideal for background music or announcements (where a Microphone might be involved).
