Grover • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM Is the power rating RMS?
    Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
Hi Grover: I would say 100 Watts RMS, 150Watts peak to be on the safe side. TL/5314
CS • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM Considering to be a new OSD customer. For the same money, (other than woofer size), what are the key differences with the AP640 vs the AP525? This would be for an outdoor deck approx 600 sq ft. Thanks.
    Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
Hi CS: The AP525 is a newer design that features a unique mounting bracket that both swivels and tilts. Plus it is a sealed enclosure with an IP6X outdoor rating so it can have direct exposure to the outdoor elements. The AP640 is a ported design. The AP650 with its 6.5" woofer is more similar to the AP640 specs including 150 watts and lower Frequency Response and a sensitivity of 91 dB vs. 89dB of the AP640. But it also is double the money of the AP525/AP640. In both cases, the 6.5-inch speakers have more bass and higher power handling. The AP650 was rated the top outdoor patio speaker on the market for 2018. TL/5503
Stefan • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM It does not seem like these were actually made for outside use...? :-( Connections have rusted to the point of the speakers not working anymore. And the grills rusted after about 1 year and has not been getting better. The sound was good while they worked, but I must say I had higher hopes for the durability of these.
    Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
Hi Stephan: We typically recommend patio speakers like the AP640, which are a ported design that they not be exposed directly to the elements. Based upon your pictures it appears they are 100% exposed to the elements and I am assuming the terminals that appear to have rusted on the back of the Patio speaker where were exposed to Snow and ICE. A better choice would have been our AP650 which are a sealed design (no ports) and include a snap on cover to protect the connection terminals. Even so, I might have suggested building a protective cover to provide some protection from direct exposure. We can offer you a discount on a pair of AP650 or a pair of AP525 (same price as the AP640 but with 5.25"). Please contact our internal sales manager Ed Han at ed@audiogeargroup.com. He is aware of your issue.TL/5553
Chris • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM The description indicates these are good for 500 to 800 sqft areas.  I have an 11 x 58 covered patio which square footage falls within that area, but I am concerned due to the rectangular shape of the patio. What is the ideal spacing of speakers of this size?
    Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
Hi Chris:In order to have the best stereo separation for the AP640, you need to have the speakers 8 to 12 feet apart, and with 11 feet being quite narrow I am thinking roughly 10 feet apart staring the first speaker at 4 and 14 ft, second pair at 24 and 34 feet, third pair at 44 and 54 ft. I would set them up as left, right, left, right, left, and right. A perfect amplifier for this would be our AMP300, which is 2-ohm stable. You connect the left speaker at 4 ft and the right speaker at 54 ft to speaker B output and the other two pair 14/24 and 34/44 to speaker A output. That will give you the proper coverage for a long narrow rectangular porch like yours. Let me know if you need additional setup or clarification; tim@osdaudio.com.Good luckTL/5638
Lenny • 01/16/2021, 1:47:01 PM I purchased your AP640 a few years ago , the speakers work well still but the grills are horribly rusted , is the current model grill rust free?
    Customer Service • 02/03/2021, 7:56:54 PM
Hi Lenny: We have replacement grills available for the AP640, both Black and White. They are still powder-coated steel. Do you leave them out for the winter? Note our AP650 series feature rustproof Aluminum Grills and a two-way mount that provides a tilt to the C clamps' normal swivel. Grill replacement contacts Sam at 562-697-2600 ext. 100.
