The SPW-8 is a stereo (two channel), one input, eight output, broad frequency response, volume control distribution hub. It provides a simple solution in complex speaker installations providing an easy way to connect from two to eight volume controls and pairs of stereo speakers to a single stereo receiver/amplifier. All outputs are labeled easing both connection and troubleshooting of a system

Must be used with impedance matching volume controls? What is the impedance of this? I do not see it in description.

James,
It should be used with an impedance matching Volume control only, the impedance would be 8 ohms. -CL

The impedance is 8 Ohm when you make sure to set the impedance switch on the volume controls to the proper setting, 1 to 2 zones; 2x. 3 to 4 zones set to 4X and 5 to 8 zones set to 8X on each of the individual volume controls. There is no protection in the SPW8 that is why we specify using Impedance Matching volume controls like our OSD SVC100 or OVC10 for outdoor use.

hi,
can it be used with a 70V power line ?
Thanks
Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
Hi Maxime,
In theory, you should be able to use a 70 Volt connection using just either the left channel or right channel, only without Volume controls.

What does "Must be used with impedance matching volume controls" mean? I have a normal amp (W-Audio DA300 http://www.decks.co.uk/products/WAudio/DA300) will this distribution panel still work?
Thanks

HI Harry:
This is a simple patch bay that features a single four conductor stereo input (Right and Left, +/-) with 8 stereo outputs wired internally in Parallel. It provides no protection so if you connect two of the 8 zone outputs it drops the impedance of the two pair of 8 ohm speakers to 4 ohm. As you add additional speakers the impedance continues to drop below the safe operating zone of most amplifiers. If the amplifier you are using is a High Current Amp that has a true 2 ohm rating then you could drive up to three of the zones. Our OSD Branded AMP200 and AMP300 could accomplish this with no problem. The OSD speaker selectors which feature the same parallel wiring configuration as the SPW8 (while adding on/off buttons per zone) offer internal protection (switchable). The protection cuts the power of the amplifier to the speakers when in use. Note when adding Impedance Matching Volume Controls to a speaker selector we recommend defeating the internal protection. In order for the SPW8 which has no internal protection option to work with a Standard 8 ohm amplifier and more than two zones connected, we recommend you add the Impedance Matching Volume Control for each zone which protects the amplifier from seeing less than a 4 ohm load. There is a impedance switch on each of the Volume Controls... 1 to 2 zones setting would be 1/2X, 3 to 4 zones setting would be 4X and 5 to 8 zones connected each Volume Control would be set to 8X. I hope this helps.

If I only have 2 (or 4) pairs of speakers hooked up instead of 8, does the delivered wattage decrease by the number of pairs (or by the 8 pair split always).
Thanks

Hi John,
The key to the SPW-8 is the amplifier/receiver you’re using to drive the speakers. The capability an amplifier/receiver has a lot to do with power distribution and setup of the impedance-matching volume controls needed in the overall system. The SPW-8 organizes the wiring like a speaker selector, minus the on/off switches and any internal protection. It ties all your speakers together in parallel. The optimum power amplifiers we recommend are the AMP200 or AMP300, both true high current amplifiers. The ideal volume controls would be our SVC300 or OVC300 (outdoor version).
