Can this be used in place of a stereo receiver to connect speakers to TV or you still need the receiver?

Hi Anna:
The SPW8 is a one stereo input to 8 stereo outputs patch bay. It would not work for your application. There are a couple of ways to connect to your TV. One is directly to the speaker outputs depending on your TV. It typically has a pair of female RCA outputs labeled as R (right) and L (left). This would connect to an amplifier using a stereo patch cord. And depending on the TV you might have a choice of fixed or variable output. Another way is to connect to the stereo output of your cable or Satellite set top box.

What is the purpose of this? I noticed that since I have switched out my controls, my radio is shutting off telling me check speaker wires. From what I can tell (old house, new house to us with system already installed), it looks like speaker wire coming from radio goes to one control and then on to all the other speakers. Trying to determine how to handle my problem.

3) What source are you using, Receiver. Speaker Selector etc. What components do you have Brand and model number?
4) Has the system worked for you at all?

I have a 95 Watt Onkyo stereo that has speaker system A and B. A goes to my indoor speakers B goes to my outdoor speakers and my Family room. My goal is to be able to use this device to lessen the draw on the Tuner amp plus distribute the sound evenly. I think this device would take the single output B and allow me to add up to 8 different zones of speakers with individually controlled volumes. The way my system is now every pair of speakers that is added shares the power with the other speakers and is jeopardizing the amp. am I correct in thinking this will resolve the issue?

Hi Bryan:
First, which ONKYO Receiver are you referring to, is it a stereo receiver or a Audio Video Receiver you are using just for stereo? What is model number? When you have connected a pair of speakers to A and a to B as well they should split power evenly if they are exactly the same speakers. Otherwise if they have different impedance (one maybe 8 ohm the other 6 or even 4 ohm). The sensitivity might be different as well (one may be 89 dB and the other 91 dB as an example. In this case the 91 will be more efficient and less power hungry). Power Handling maybe different as well. The SPW-8 is patch bay that ties all the speakers connected in parallel. It does not have any internal protection circuitry so that is why we recommend each and every pair of speakers attached utilize an impedance matching Volume Control. This way the Volume Controls do the impedance matching based upon the number of speakers and the impedance setting selected for all the volume controls being utilized. There are three settings, 1/2X for 1 to 2 pair of speakers; 4X for 3 to 4 pairs and 8X for 5 to 8 pairs connected. All Volume Controls will be set to the same setting. Typically we recommend just using one of the two outputs (either A or B) of the Receiver and connecting a speaker selector like our ISS8 or DSM8 if you are planning to use Volume Controls. Or use the TSM8 where the speaker selector features an internal Protection circuit that is selectable based upon the number of speakers connected. With an 4 or 8 ohm system it is imperative that you control the impedance that the Receiver sees so it operates in a safe operating range. It also depends on which ONKYO Receiver you have to better answer your question. Most of the time people are trying to drive multiple zones off of their Audio Video Receiver's Zone 2 output connecting a speaker selector to the speaker level output in lieu of a pair of surround speakers (usually channel 6 and 7 of the 7.2 ). But this output is only available for a single pair of speakers. For multiple speakers there is a pre amp output that you connect to a external power amplifier like our AMP200. These comes after the Receiver and before the speaker selector and volume controls. There are options for a speaker selector with built in Impedance Matching Volume Controls as well. So please let me know as much about what you are trying to accomplish, What equipment do you have or what are you looking at. tim@osdaudio.com. Make sure to include Brand and model numbers.

It is metal with a wrinkle cut black powder coating. The same finish as most of our Speaker selectors.
