    The ISS4 High Power Speaker Selector is an easy and effective way to distribute music to up to four listening zones (four pairs of speakers) and play any pair, a combination of pairs, or all pairs simultaneously. Easy to connect with a low-profile design that easily fits into a cabinet or equipment rack.n choose. Front-panel push buttons let you quickly turn each pair of speakers on or off independently, and die cut labels fit within the recessed area on the buttons for easy labeling of each zone. A passive device that does not require power to operate, the ISS4 also includes impedance-matching circuitry so you can safely drive all four pairs at once without damaging your receiver or amp.     Upgraded Input/Output Connectors
    The ISS4 is easy to install (even for non-technical types) and accepts up to 14-gauge cable. The European-style input/output connectors are removable, which gives you better leverage when terminating cable than traditional spring-loaded terminals. This speaker selector takes either four or two conductor speaker wire stripped at the ends that are inserted into the screw-down input/output terminals for a tight fit to ensure the best signal transmission and sound quality possible. 

    Protecting Valuable Audio Equipment with Impedance Protection 
    When connecting multiple speakers to a receiver or amplifier, you need to stay above the amp's minimum load requirements. Going below the impedance rating can overheat or even damage expensive equipment. The ISS4 includes selectable impedance matching protection circuitry that allows a single amplifier to safely power several pairs of speakers. The speaker selector handles 140 watts per channel total input power without the manual protection engaged and 70 watts per channel with the protection engaged.

Will it power 4 pairs of your ICE800 Contractor Series 8" In-ceiling speakers through this ISS4 speaker selector? I have been running all four (Most of the time) for last 9 years using a Realistic System 1000 that met an unfortunate end a week ago.

    Hi Gregory: Yes this setup will work, just want to make sure you enable protection switch on front panel that is assuming you are not using impedance matching volume controls in each zone. You could also step up to the DSM4 which has protection switch on the back so it is easier not to disable by accident. Also it gives you dual source (a/b switch per zone). So you could expand your system by adding our XMP100 and choosing from many other sources (computer library, Smartphone etc.). Note if you are using Impedance matching Volume Controls already do not use the protection on the IS$ or DSM if you go with that. Note we also offer a Trim-less version of the ICE-800 called the ACE-800. We also have better (ACE-840) and best (ACE-850) available as well. TL/4494
    Bruce • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM I would be using this switch with 4 pairs of 8 ohm speakers; sometimes all 4 zones would be used simultaneously, but other times it might be only 2, or 3 zones used simultaneously, or just 1 zone. If I want to have zone volume control with this switch, would I use the impedance matching type or the resistance type? Could I use the appropriate volume controls on some but not all zones? I can't fit a switch with built-in volume controls where I need to install it, so this might be my only solution.

    Hi Bruce: The ISS4 has built in protection utilizing internal resistors where the power handling is cut in half from 140 watts to 70 Watts. Not a problem if your are using 2 channel 50 watt stereo amplifier. We typically recommend using Impedance matching Volume Controls to handle the protection while leaving the internal protection switch to off/disabled so you get the 140 watts per channel bypassing the internal resistors. In order for the Impedance matching Volume Controls do their job you would need to have a Volume Control per each zone. We do have Resistor based Volume Controls without Impedance matching if you were going only add one or two volume controls (not all zones) and then enable the internal protection switch. TL/4844

    Hello Kent: The first thing to consider is Impedance Matching not the Maximum power handling of the four pairs of speakers you have. Note the ISS4 speaker selector, to begin with, is rated at 140 watts per channel without protection enabled. Note: with the Protection turned on the power handling drops to 70 watts per channel (half of the 140Watts without protection). When you connect an AMP300 it is rated at 150Watts at an 8-ohm load. So you would have only one pair of speakers playing at 8 ohms so the amp would produce 150 Watts (maybe pushing the ISS4 a bit) within rated 175 watts of your speaker, But now you add your second pair of speakers. The two pairs of 8-ohm speakers in parallel now produces a 4-ohm load on the single AMP300 which does 235 watts at 4 ohms. Add the third zone and now the impedance drops to 2.6 ohms. Did I also mention that it is critical when placing the AMP300 in the Bridged mode it has to see no less than an 8-ohm load? So my first question would be; do you currently have 4 pairs of speakers installed in your house with all your wires run to a central location? Do you have the ability to add Impedance Matching Volume Controls for each pair of speakers? That is where I would start; tim@osdaudio.com. TL/5212
    Tom • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM Hi, I have a YAMAHA RX-V371, 5.1 channel receiver and a pair of old PANASONIC- 3way system, 8 ohm speakers. I would like to add a pair of POLK RC85i, 8 ohm speakers in another room using 16 gage wire. Using ISS4 with impedance protection on (or off) can I power only a pair at a time or can both pairs be powered at the same time without any problems? Thanks.

    Hi Tom: I am assuming you are using this classic Yamaha AVR for a two-channel stereo Receiver. You certainly can add an ISS4 four zone passive speaker selector with Protection circuit. But would suggest stepping up to an SSVC2 2 zone speaker selector with built-in Impedance Matching Volume Controls. The SSVC2 would do a better job of protection for your Yamaha while allowing you to attenuate the sound for each zone. It also features dual source so when you are ready to step up your source options, you could add our NERO XD Streamer complete with both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi options so you can control your system with our OSD Audio Player App on your phone. You play one pair or the other or both at the same time. The SSVC2 comes with the Impedance setting of 2X (for both zones), so the Receiver sees an 8-ohm connection. The ISS4 has the protection switch you would need to enable when listening to both pairs of speakers, but the power handling is half ( 70 watts) per channel. If the switch is disabled and you have both zones active the impedance drops to 4-ohms, not advised with your Yamaha. Note the NERO XD Stream can connect to two pair of 8-ohm speakers (like you have) and play them with the 4-ohm load even without the SSVC2. But the SSVC2 provides more control with the two internal volume controls. Let me know what you think; tim@osdaudio.com. TL/5514
    Brent Yoches • 06/16/2021, 2:10:11 PM I'm looking to connect 2-pair of 40-watt/6-ohm speakers (Yamaha AW-390) to a 75-watt/4-ohm receiver (Denon AVR-S750H). I already have separate impedance matching volume controls wired to each speaker pair. With this setup, is this the correct/best speaker selection option?

    HI Brent: Yes, the Impedance Matching Volume Controls should each be set to 1/2X as long as you just have the two zones connected. If you add two more than the setting for each Impedance matching Volume Control would be at 4X. Regards TimL/6-22
