The ISS6 High Power Speaker Selector is an easy and effective way to distribute music to up to six listening zones (six pairs of speakers) and play any pair, a combination of pairs, or all pairs simultaneously. Easy to connect with a low-profile design that easily fits into a cabinet or equipment rack.n choose. Front-panel push buttons let you quickly turn each pair of speakers on or off independently, and die cut labels fit within the recessed area on the buttons for easy labeling of each zone. A passive device that does not require power to operate, the ISS6 also includes impedance-matching circuitry so you can safely drive all six pairs at once without damaging your receiver or amp. Designed with quality in mind, the ISS6 is constructed of 16-gauge steel with a durable black powder coating and gray silk-screening.
Features
- Distributes audio from a receiver or amp to multiple pairs of speakers
- Send one signal to up to four pairs of speakers in different listening zones
- Impedance protection allows a single amplifier to safely power multiple speakers
- Removable input/output connectors allow easy cable termination
- Includes on/off switches for each zone
- Low profile with beautiful black brushed aluminum finish
- Works with any amplifier
- Includes a two-year warranty
Upgraded Input/Output Connectors
The ISS4 is easy to install (even for non-technical types) and accepts up to 14-gauge cable. The European-style input/output connectors are removable, which gives you better leverage when terminating cable than traditional spring-loaded terminals. This speaker selector takes either four or two conductor speaker wire stripped at the ends that are inserted into the screw-down input/output terminals for a tight fit to ensure the best signal transmission and sound quality possible.
Protecting Valuable Audio Equipment with Impedance Protection
When connecting multiple speakers to a receiver or amplifier, you need to stay above the amp's minimum load requirements. Going below the impedance rating can overheat or even damage expensive equipment. The ISS6 includes selectable impedance matching protection circuitry that allows a single amplifier to safely power several pairs of speakers. The speaker selector handles 140 watts per channel total input power without the manual protection engaged and 70 watts per channel with the protection engaged.

I have four outdoor 8ohm speakers to wire. Do I wire one speaker to the R+ and R- contacts in the Output 1 area and then the 2nd speaker to the L+ and L- in Output 1? Then the other two speakers would be in the Output 2 area with the 3rd wired to R+ and R- of Output 2 and the final speaker #4 would wire to L+ and L- Output 2? So all four speakers would wire to the block of Output 1 and 2? Hope that makes sense.

Hi Frank:
This is a six zone speaker selector but you only mention two pair of speakers and nothing about possible Volume Controls. Pretty much you unplug the Zone1/Zone 2 Connector and connect as you described. Speaker 1 connect to R +/-, then the second speaker to Left +/- and the same with speaker 3 and 4 connecting to R&L +/- of the four inputs on the same connector labeled Zone 2. I am assuming your are running the four speaker as two stereo pairs. And do you need six zones for just two pairs. And what are you planning for your sources? You can supply me with more information like the rest of your system including Brand names and model numbers. My contact info: tim@osdaudio.com so I can answer any additional questions..
Good luck

Do you have any speaker selectors that would allow 12 gauge wire? They all seem to fit up to 14 gauge only. I have some long runs for outdoor speakers - including one that's 150 ft long and had heard that a larger gauge would be better so I ordered(and just received) a 500ft spool of 12 Gauge 2-conductor Oxygen Free Burial Rated In-Wall Speaker Cable 500ft CL3 but now I'm seeing that it's too large for speaker selectors...

Hi Daryl:
The only Speaker Speaker selector that accepts 12 gauge wire is our ATM7. The only issue with the ATM7 it has no internal Impedance protection built in. We recommend using Impedance Matching Volume Controls but those have an issue with 12 gauge as well. I usually recommend 16 gauge up to 80 feet and 14 gauge up to 200 feet with 112 gauge over 200 feet. Unless it is Low Frequencies like for a sub woofer then we are talking 14 gauge to 50 feet and 12 gauge above that.
Sorry about that

Currently, I have 3 pairs of speakers I would be controlling with this selector switch. 2 of those pairs of speakers are labeled as being 8-ohm impedance. However, the 3rd pair of those speakers is labeled as being 6-ohm impedance. Eventually, I will be adding 3 more pairs of 8-ohm speakers for a total of 6 pairs. Would I be risking my amplifier by using those 6-ohm speakers with this selector switch?

Hi Ken:
It sounds like you are not using or intend on using impedance matching volume controls for your current 3 pairs or the three pairs you plan on adding. You can add the 3 pair to the ISS6 but if you depend on using the internal protection you cut the power handling per channel from 140 Watts to 70 Watts per channel. If you are not planning on using external external Impedance matching Volume Controls (you would need one for each zone) then maybe the SSVC6D would be a better fit. It features six Internal Impedance Matching Volume Controls. The Volume Controls do a better job at Impedance Matching than the protection circuit found in the ISS and DSM series speaker selectors. Another option is the TSM8 Speaker Selectors which features the best internal protection. It has a selectable protection switch based upon how many speakers you are actually using.
Good luck

With respect to the ISS6, I read that you can control the volume for each pair of speakers separately. How can that be done? It doesn't appear to have individual volume controls... Awaiting your response.

Hi Steve:
Good question, that bullet point is incorrect, you can not control the volume per zone unless you add a volume Control for that zone. And if you are adding Impedance Matching Volume Controls to protect you Amp/Receiver then you must add a volume control for each zone and the impedance matching setting must be the same on all 6 or for however many zones you have connected. Of course, you can select the SSVC6D which has the internal volume control built in for each zone plus an on/off switch per zone the same switch as the ISS6. Thanks for pointing out the bullet point.
