OSD SVC205 In-Wall Impedance Matching Volume Control with On/Off Switch
The OSD Audio SVC205 is a self-impedance matching in-wall volume controller with an on/off switch. Volume controls do not add gain (volume) to your speakers; they simply attenuate the volume up or down. During setup, you'll set the source volume to its optimum level, then the volume control turns the sound down to almost inaudible levels. The SVC205 is unique in that it let's you turn sound off completely.

What Is Impedance Protection?
Speakers are specified by impedance, which is a measurement of resistance to alternating current, and a common value for speakers is 8 ohms. When you're connecting multiple speakers to a receiver or amplifier, you need to stay above the amp's minimum load requirements because going below the impedance rating can overheat or even damage expensive equipment. The SVC allows you to match the impedance with the number of speakers being controlled with the capabilities of your amp. A basic multi-room system will typically have an amplifier/receiver, a speaker selector, four to eight pairs of speakers, and volume controls. Impedance-matching volume controls feature three settings depending on how many speakers you are connecting. For one to two pairs of 8-ohm speakers, the setting is 1/2x; for three or four pairs of 8 ohm speakers, the setting is 4X. Keep in mind that volume controls do not add gain (volume) to your speakers but simply attenuate the volume up or down. During setup, you'll set the source volume to its optimum level, then the volume control turns the sound down to inaudible levels.

I'm installing this device and I'm finding the wires are not staying fastened in the connector. I'm using CL3 14/2 speaker wire. Are there other connectors or options for fastening wires to this device.

The screws really have to be tightened down in order to properly secure the wire in the phoenix connector. Is the wire twisted or soldered?

The wire is twisted and even with the screw tightened as much as possible when I go to install the device in the single gang box the wires are pulled out. I’m considering placing a ball of solder on the end of each wire as a possible option as that might help the screw hold the wire in place.

Will this work for a CAT5 System or a Legrand System?

Hi Joe,
It has speaker wire connectors, so it's only intended to be used in line with a stereo amplifier/receiver. If your CAT5 system has an amplifier that runs to speakers via speaker wire, then you could use this, but it would not use any CAT5 wire, as it's analog, not digital. Let us know if that helps. I would just like to know how many speakers i can control with these at 1 time?

Typically with our 300 watt volume controls, you can run 2 or even 3 pairs of 8ohm speakers. You just need to make sure you have sufficient power to run each speaker while not exceeding the max input rating for the volume control.

I have a svc300, Samson servo 600, and 4 jbl control 28's.. I called osd and talked to someone before I purchased the vc and they said the svc300 would work without issue. I explained my wiring scheme, selected the correct selector setting and it worked for a week now the vc is blown, it burned one of the wires on the back of the board on the svc300. Do they make a bigger volume control? Or maybe I received a factory defect?

It looks to me like your amp is pushing too much power out for any of our volume controls. Do you know what level of volume you usually keep the amp set to?
