Relax in the tub and enjoy beautiful sound with this water-resistant 8" in-ceiling speaker! With 150W power handling, this in-ceiling speaker is the solution to bringing quality audio to high moisture areas, and is constructed of durable, moisture-resistant materials for use in high-humidity areas such as bathrooms, laundry rooms, kitchens, patios, under outdoor eaves or covered porches. Sold as a single speaker, the ICE800TTWRS offers excellent stereo sound and takes up half the space of a standard speaker pair, while still delivering smooth, 2-channel sound. The aluminum grill cover is rust-resistant for wet application. This weather-resistant speaker was created specifically for an application where you have a right (+/-) and left (+/-) stereo signal coming into a room/ space where you only have space for a single speaker. Just connect one pair of conductors to one set of inputs (+/-) and the second pair of conductors to the second set of inputs.
What Is a Dual Voice Coil Ceiling Speaker?
A Dual Voice Coil (DVC) Ceiling Speaker uses a special voice coil cone design that allows both channels of a stereo system to drive one cone. Sounds complicated but it's not. Basically, a DVC speaker plays both right and left channels through one speaker cone. You get both channels but without the acoustic separation that happens with two speakers. There are places like bathrooms, closets or hallways that just can’t accommodate multiple speakers, so a DVC speaker solves the problem and produces great sound.
How Does this Speaker Mount in the Ceiling?
Customers often ask us if they need special installation mounting brackets on their OSD ceiling speakers. The answer is no and here’s why. All our in-ceiling speakers feature a dog leg (L-shaped) mounting system that is part of the frame. Before you install the speakers, remove the grille and you’ll see several the mounting screws near the front frame. These screws need to be loosened to activate the dog leg clamps. Use a screwdriver to loosen (turn to the left) these screws and the clamp will come loose. When the speaker is in position in the ceiling, tighten (turn to the right) the screw and the speaker will be secured to the ceiling.
What Type of Speaker Wire and What Gauge?
Wiring is not included with in-ceiling speakers so you will have to purchase some. We recommend our OSD Audio CL3/FT4 cable that is UL (fire) rated for in-wall and outdoor speaker installs. This type of cable includes a heavy-duty outer jacket approved for in-wall/in-ceiling installation. The high-quality plastic jacket is also very flexible so it's easy to run the wires inside the wall. As for the gauge, for runs up to 100 feet for background music, 16-gauge will be fine. If the run is approaching or exceeding 100 feet, we suggest 14-gauge wire.
Testing the Sound Quality of In-Ceiling Speakers
Many customers like to test the sound quality of their new OSD Audio in-ceiling speakers before they install them. Keep in mind, however, that these flush-mount speakers are designed to be used in the wall or ceiling. Uninstalled in-wall/in-ceiling speakers will sound weak and tinny because without the proper enclosure (in this case your house wall) the speaker can’t produce the sound pressure level it needs. If you want to try them out, we recommend mounting the in-ceiling speakers into a box of about 3 cubic ft. or larger; or simply mount them in the ceiling and then listen. This will give you an accurate measure of the sound quality.
For a retrofit installation, no construction bracket is needed.

Can you use two on patio or only one because it's stereo ? What else would be good outdoor covered patio with rock speakers?
Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
The choices depend on your source or amplification. These are a dual voice coil stereo speaker meant to connect to the right and left output of a stereo zone. If you’re using a High Current Amplifier (like our OSD AMP200), you can connect two or three of these speakers off a single A or B output. If you are connecting to a typical receiver or amplifier rated at 8 ohm output, you are limited to a single speaker if you have only one output available. If you have both A and B available from your source, you can connect a speaker to A and a second speaker to B. You can also add an impedance-matching volume control (like our OVC100 outdoor impedance matching volume control) in line from your source to your speakers, allowing you to connect two ICE880TT in parallel to a single output. This insures the amplifier/receiver sees an 8 ohm load and also gives you the ability to control your volume levels locally. In-ceiling speakers are typically used for background music where stereo separation is not important. The stereo versions were created for applications where a single location was the only option. However, due to their dual tweeter design with broader sound dispersion and full range sound, it has become more popular to use two stereo speakers instead of a stereo pair. We also offer a stereo speaker in both our Patio and Rock speakers as well.

What is the distance between mounting holes on this speaker?
Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
Nathaniel,
That would be 8 1/2" between the mounting holes.

I HAVE A PATIO COVER 14' X 27', WITH A TV ON THE FIREPLACE , AND I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW MANY ICE800TWRS SPEAKERS I HAVE TO INSTALL TO HAVE A GOOD SOUND IN THE PATIO AREA
Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
Hi Salvador:
That is pretty good size area. Considering theoverall patio cover area with no knowledge where your Fireplace and TV will actaully be placed under the overhang I would recommend the otimum of 6 each of the ICE800TTWRS connected with our ISS6 Speaker Selector. I would power them with our AMP200 which features Automatic Source switching between two independent sources. You could choose between the audio of the TV or an iPod or MP3 player as asecond source. Placement of the speakers would be a minimun of three feet from any wall area/surface to avoid reflections. Roughly I would place the first speaker three feet from the house wall and four feet in from the side. Then the second speaker six feet out or 9 feet from the house wall. Duplicate the two speakers on the opposite end. The two middle speakers will be placed the same distance from the house wall exactly the same distance from the two sides (13 feet). I am assuming the 27 feet is running the length of the house and 14 feet from the house wall. This would be the optimum coverage. You could get away with four of these speakers and a smaller speaker selector if more budget minded. These Stereo speakers are nice allowing a more fuller sound from each speaker versus worrying about right and left stereo seperation depending on where your are seated or standing for any length of time. You also need to take into consideration where the seating is and where other obstructions like the fireplace maybe located. Note can supply with everything you need to do the job including CL3 rated spesaker wire. Please feel free to contact us for further clarification.

Michael • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
If i am using these speakers with your impedance matching volume control, can I hook 4 of these speakers to a single volume controller?
Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
Hi Michael:
We need a little more info, technically you would need at least two Volume Controls both set to 4X and connect both Voice coils of all four speakers. How big is your area, how protected (assuming it is an outdoor patio) are the speakers from the elements. Is it important to use single stereo speakers.. Please let me know so I can assist you further.

What material are the grilles made of?
Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
Rosey,
The Grills are powder Coated Aluminum. They are chosen for the outdoor application because they will not rust.
