Relax in the tub and enjoy beautiful sound with this water-resistant 8" in-ceiling speaker! With 150W power handling, this in-ceiling speaker is the solution to bringing quality audio to high moisture areas, and is constructed of durable, moisture-resistant materials for use in high-humidity areas such as bathrooms, laundry rooms, kitchens, patios, under outdoor eaves or covered porches. Sold as a single speaker, the ICE800TTWRS offers excellent stereo sound and takes up half the space of a standard speaker pair, while still delivering smooth, 2-channel sound. The aluminum grill cover is rust-resistant for wet application. This weather-resistant speaker was created specifically for an application where you have a right (+/-) and left (+/-) stereo signal coming into a room/ space where you only have space for a single speaker. Just connect one pair of conductors to one set of inputs (+/-) and the second pair of conductors to the second set of inputs.
What Is a Dual Voice Coil Ceiling Speaker?
A Dual Voice Coil (DVC) Ceiling Speaker uses a special voice coil cone design that allows both channels of a stereo system to drive one cone. Sounds complicated but it's not. Basically, a DVC speaker plays both right and left channels through one speaker cone. You get both channels but without the acoustic separation that happens with two speakers. There are places like bathrooms, closets or hallways that just can’t accommodate multiple speakers, so a DVC speaker solves the problem and produces great sound.
How Does this Speaker Mount in the Ceiling?
Customers often ask us if they need special installation mounting brackets on their OSD ceiling speakers. The answer is no and here’s why. All our in-ceiling speakers feature a dog leg (L-shaped) mounting system that is part of the frame. Before you install the speakers, remove the grille and you’ll see several the mounting screws near the front frame. These screws need to be loosened to activate the dog leg clamps. Use a screwdriver to loosen (turn to the left) these screws and the clamp will come loose. When the speaker is in position in the ceiling, tighten (turn to the right) the screw and the speaker will be secured to the ceiling.
What Type of Speaker Wire and What Gauge?
Wiring is not included with in-ceiling speakers so you will have to purchase some. We recommend our OSD Audio CL3/FT4 cable that is UL (fire) rated for in-wall and outdoor speaker installs. This type of cable includes a heavy-duty outer jacket approved for in-wall/in-ceiling installation. The high-quality plastic jacket is also very flexible so it's easy to run the wires inside the wall. As for the gauge, for runs up to 100 feet for background music, 16-gauge will be fine. If the run is approaching or exceeding 100 feet, we suggest 14-gauge wire.
Testing the Sound Quality of In-Ceiling Speakers
Many customers like to test the sound quality of their new OSD Audio in-ceiling speakers before they install them. Keep in mind, however, that these flush-mount speakers are designed to be used in the wall or ceiling. Uninstalled in-wall/in-ceiling speakers will sound weak and tinny because without the proper enclosure (in this case your house wall) the speaker can’t produce the sound pressure level it needs. If you want to try them out, we recommend mounting the in-ceiling speakers into a box of about 3 cubic ft. or larger; or simply mount them in the ceiling and then listen. This will give you an accurate measure of the sound quality.
For a retrofit installation, no construction bracket is needed.

I only have 1 wire run to 4 different locations in my covered patio. Has anyone run a jumper from 1 input to the other on these speakers and had success? I'm sure this question is also dependent on the amp being used, but has anyone done this that has purchased these speakers? Thanks.

Hi Mark,
That would power the 2nd tweeter, but you'd still be hearing only one channel, not full stereo. You need both channels from the amp wired to the speaker to actually hear stereo. Certain sounds are recorded for the left channel while others are recorded for the right channel, thus you would be missing out on a lot of specific sounds. With your wire scheme, you would want the standard ICE800WRS which come as pairs. See link below:

Hi Italy,
As long as there is a hole and something for the speakers to clamp onto within the reach of the dog-ear clamps, I don't see why that wouldn't work. Let us know how it goes!

I have a master bath (spkr 1 & 2) and a Master Bedroom (spkr 3 & 4) that have both been pre-wired for sound. The two speakers in the master bath can be wired in parallel or in series as I have stereo running to each and two speaker cables running between speaker 1&2.
Goal #1 I would like to have stereo sound out of both speaker 1 and speaker 2. I’d like to use: ICE800TTWRS for these as the speakers are weather resistant and can be wired so both produce stereo out of a single speaker. I also like the fact that they are 8” cones so I may be able to get better base response.
Goal #2 I would like to have 3 & 4 start life as stereo speakers over the bed, but then become rear surround sound speakers at a later date.
Goal #3 I would like to run 1,2,3,4 off of a single amp to start. I would then like to have that amp become just the bathroom amp when I get a surround sound receiver.
Questions:
1) Would AMP120 be able to run 1&2 in parallel at 4 ohms and 3&4 in stereo at 8 ohms simultaneously?
2) Does AMP 120 have enough power to push the 8” cones to drive some low end?
3) Should I go with the ICE800TTWRS for 3&4 in the master bedroom or is there another / better option for my goals of good stereo sound today and good surround sound speakers in the future

Answer: No the AMP120 would only allow you to play speaker A or B and would have a problem playing just the two Stereo/Mono speakers from the Master Bathroom.
Question #2) Does AMP 120 have enough power to push the 8” cones to drive some low end?
Answer: This Amplifier is meant to play at 8 ohms and typically does not supply the current to power the bass response you are looking for either zone.
Checkout the AMP200 which would be a better fit for your application and can also be used for your surround channels in the future. The AMP200 is a High Current Amplifier that is stable down to 2 ohms and could handle two stereo speakers from the bathroom as well as the stereo pair in the master Bedroom (which would produce around a 3.6 ohm load). The AMP200 would also be able have plenty of output power for your lower frequencies. As far as surround channels when you select a AVR (audio Video Receiver) you will want to make sure it has pre amp outs for your surround channels so you can connect it to input #1 of the AMP200. I would also look for an AVR with a second zone pre amp out which would connect to Input #2 on the AMP200. Now Line 1 input would take priority when the AVR is playing surround sound until it is turned off then Line #2 is enabled and can play your background music through either the Master Bathroom or Master Bedroom or both. The only change you will make will be to switch the source from the AMP200 to the AVR. We can help you with that when it is time.
Question #3) Should I go with the ICE800TTWRS for 3&4 in the master bedroom or is there another / better option for my goals of good stereo sound today and good surround sound speakers in the future
Answer: I would recommend the ICE840TT (also weather resistant) as a better choice because it allows you to connect the two speakers as either two Summed Mon/stereo speakers or as a stereo pair. The speaker features better components as well as a true crossover and the 8ohm/16ohm dual application switch. In the 16 ohm setting you connect both voice coils on the speakers and connect both four conductors from the two speakers to Speaker A Output (left and right) of the AMP200. You can also see if the speakers might sound better connected as a stereo pair. To accomplish this you connect only two conductors of the four to one voice coil of each speaker then connect one speaker to right and the other to the left.
In the Master Bedroom I would recommend using a ICE840 eight inch 2 way speaker with Pivoting 1" Tweeter. This would work for both application and also be an eight inch with more base response. Plus if you connect it as I suggested the speaker will play surround information plus still be used for background music, a win, win.

I have a 76' long patio and I want to install speakers in the ceiling. Would these be ideal? If so how many would you suggest and how far apart would they need to be placed?

Hi Billy,
Yes, these will work great and they put out stereo sound as long as you run 4-conductor wire to each speaker. I would run one speaker every 10-12 feet or so. Maybe a total of 6 or so.

Hi Billy:
The suggestion to have you run 6 each of the Dual Voice Coil speaker the length of your Patio/Porch is correct. And you also need to run four conductor to each (left and right +/- for each speaker). My concern is how are you planning to power these speakers. What Amplification are you using and are you using any Impedance matching Volume Controls or Speaker Selector to a little more detail on your basic system. You might be better off running three pair of the ICE800WRS.
