Relax in the tub and enjoy beautiful sound with this water-resistant 8" in-ceiling speaker! With 150W power handling, this in-ceiling speaker is the solution to bringing quality audio to high moisture areas, and is constructed of durable, moisture-resistant materials for use in high-humidity areas such as bathrooms, laundry rooms, kitchens, patios, under outdoor eaves or covered porches. Sold as a single speaker, the ICE800TTWRS offers excellent stereo sound and takes up half the space of a standard speaker pair, while still delivering smooth, 2-channel sound. The aluminum grill cover is rust-resistant for wet application. This weather-resistant speaker was created specifically for an application where you have a right (+/-) and left (+/-) stereo signal coming into a room/ space where you only have space for a single speaker. Just connect one pair of conductors to one set of inputs (+/-) and the second pair of conductors to the second set of inputs.

What Is a Dual Voice Coil Ceiling Speaker?
A Dual Voice Coil (DVC) Ceiling Speaker uses a special voice coil cone design that allows both channels of a stereo system to drive one cone. Sounds complicated but it's not. Basically, a DVC speaker plays both right and left channels through one speaker cone. You get both channels but without the acoustic separation that happens with two speakers. There are places like bathrooms, closets or hallways that just can’t accommodate multiple speakers, so a DVC speaker solves the problem and produces great sound.

How Does this Speaker Mount in the Ceiling?
Customers often ask us if they need special installation mounting brackets on their OSD ceiling speakers. The answer is no and here’s why. All our in-ceiling speakers feature a dog leg (L-shaped) mounting system that is part of the frame. Before you install the speakers, remove the grille and you’ll see several the mounting screws near the front frame. These screws need to be loosened to activate the dog leg clamps. Use a screwdriver to loosen (turn to the left) these screws and the clamp will come loose. When the speaker is in position in the ceiling, tighten (turn to the right) the screw and the speaker will be secured to the ceiling.

What Type of Speaker Wire and What Gauge?
Wiring is not included with in-ceiling speakers so you will have to purchase some. We recommend our OSD Audio CL3/FT4 cable that is UL (fire) rated for in-wall and outdoor speaker installs. This type of cable includes a heavy-duty outer jacket approved for in-wall/in-ceiling installation. The high-quality plastic jacket is also very flexible so it's easy to run the wires inside the wall. As for the gauge, for runs up to 100 feet for background music, 16-gauge will be fine. If the run is approaching or exceeding 100 feet, we suggest 14-gauge wire.

Testing the Sound Quality of In-Ceiling Speakers
Many customers like to test the sound quality of their new OSD Audio in-ceiling speakers before they install them. Keep in mind, however, that these flush-mount speakers are designed to be used in the wall or ceiling. Uninstalled in-wall/in-ceiling speakers will sound weak and tinny because without the proper enclosure (in this case your house wall) the speaker can’t produce the sound pressure level it needs. If you want to try them out, we recommend mounting the in-ceiling speakers into a box of about 3 cubic ft. or larger; or simply mount them in the ceiling and then listen. This will give you an accurate measure of the sound quality.

For a retrofit installation, no construction bracket is needed.

Ty • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM I wanted to hook two of these speakers up along with two single rock speakers to a Sony reciever for my out door music. I would like to have one volume control for the two in ceiling speaker and one for the two rock speakers. What speaker selector and outdoor volume controls would you recommed? Would I run the speakers in parallel? What do you recommend?
    Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
Hi Ty, You are asking about two single stereo speakers summed mono (the ICE800WRS) and two other single speakers, which I am assuming are also single stereo speakers that feature dual voice coil right and left inputs (like the ICE800WRS). If this is true, you’ll want to use our OVC-300 and wire the two existing speakers in parallel to the volume control (four conductors from each speaker spliced together with the four conductors from the output of the speaker selector). Then use four conductor back to the amplifier from the two Volume controls parallel into the single output of the receiver or run one volume control off of speaker A and one volume control off of speaker B. In both cases the impedance-matching setting for both volume controls would be 4x. If your two single speakers are meant to be connected as a pair (right and left single input), then connect that through a single OVC300 and connect the same way to the Sony receiver. The setting would still be 4x for both volume controls. I hope that helps and please do not hesitate to ask additional questions. Good luck! TL/MA
Jeff • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM I have an MX-1260 that currently feeds 4 zones in my home. One of the zones is my patio where there are currently 2 8" speakers and an outdoor volume control for both speakers. Will I be able to replace both of my outdoor speakers with 2 of these or just 1?
    Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
Hi Jeff: The Stereo Pair version of this speaker is now back in stock, the ICE840WRS. You could pick a pair of these and just wire them each through your Volume Control (1x setting) or you can connect 2 each of the ICE840TTWRS in Parallel (connecting both voice coils) with the Volume Control setting at 2X assuming it is an Impedance Matching Volume Control like our SVC300. John • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM I would like to install in a new bathroom I am building in my home. It is a small bathroom (5-1/2' x 8'). I'd like to only use 1 speaker. Is this model capable of playing stereo out of one speaker?
    Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
Hi John, This would be perfect for your application. You would run a 4-conductor cable (Right and Left +/-, like our OSD 16/4) to the speaker, which has a Left, and Right input, one for each voice coil. The speaker sums the stereo signal to produce a summed mono stereo signal. It is also weather resistant and ideal for bathrooms and outdoor patio covers. Thank you for considering OSD branded products. TL/MA
henry • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM Is this ceiling speaker rust resistant? My last speakers rusted at the grill. We live near salt water at a beach house.
    Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
Hi Henry, These grills are powder coated, but before installation you might consider applying a clear coat of spray paint to help fend off the corrosion that may occur near the beach. CL

Hi Henry, These speakers are designed specifically for your application. You just need to choose which one will fill your speaker hole, 6.5" (cutout: 7 5/8) or 8" (cutout hole: 9 5/16). The ceiling speaker you are considering is a single stereo speaker with dual voice coil design. This means you can connect both the left and right signal to it and play a summed stereo mono signal. We also have stereo pairs in both 6.5" and 8" (same cutouts) as well. TL/MA
