This 8-inch in-ceiling, weather-resistant speaker pair is great for high-humidity areas, including outdoor patios, bathrooms and laundry rooms. Great for covered porches patios! With high power handling and an 8-inch polypropylene woofer in each, these speakers deliver superior sound that covers large spaces. With swivel tweeter adjustment, you can easily create sweet spot for your listening area. Better crossover, tweeter and woofer materials add sound quality. The aluminum grill cover is rust-resistant for wet application. These weather-resistant indoor/ outdoor in-ceiling speakers work well with a CL3 in-wall rated speaker wire, which is designed to run inside walls.
Pivoting Titanium Dome Tweeter
The job of the tweeter is to deliver the higher frequencies of music and soundtracks. The tweeter is also adjustable, meaning it can be aimed toward the listening area. This can make a big difference in sound quality especially for dialog and higher frequencies.
How Does this Speaker Mount in the Ceiling?
Customers often ask us if they need special installation mounting brackets on their OSD ceiling speakers. The answer is no and here’s why. All our in-ceiling speakers feature a dog leg (L-shaped) mounting system that is part of the frame. Before you install the speakers, remove the grille and you’ll see several the mounting screws near the front frame. These screws need to be loosened to activate the dog leg clamps. Use a screwdriver to loosen (turn to the left) these screws and the clamp will come loose. When the speaker is in position in the ceiling, tighten (turn to the right) the screw and the speaker will be secured to the ceiling.
What Type of Speaker Wire and What Gauge?
Wiring is not included with in-ceiling speakers so you will have to purchase some. We recommend our OSD Audio CL3/FT4 cable that is UL (fire) rated for in-wall and outdoor speaker installs. This type of cable includes a heavy-duty outer jacket approved for in-wall/in-ceiling installation. The high-quality plastic jacket is also very flexible so it's easy to run the wires inside the wall. As for the gauge, for runs up to 100 feet for background music, 16-gauge will be fine. If the run is approaching or exceeding 100 feet, we suggest 14-gauge wire.
Testing the Sound Quality of In-Ceiling Speakers
Many customers like to test the sound quality of their new OSD Audio in-ceiling speakers before they install them. Keep in mind, however, that these flush-mount speakers are designed to be used in the wall or ceiling. Uninstalled in-wall/in-ceiling speakers will sound weak and tinny because without the proper enclosure (in this case your house wall) the speaker can’t produce the sound pressure level it needs. If you want to try them out, we recommend mounting the in-ceiling speakers into a box of about 3 cubic ft. or larger; or simply mount them in the ceiling and then listen. This will give you an accurate measure of the sound quality.
For a retrofit installation, no construction bracket is needed.

I need to build boxes to install these speakers under the eaves at my house. Please suggest a size or is 12x12x12" deep going to work?
Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
HI Robert:
The best size is the what ever space you have available under your eves. If you can do 12 x 12 x 12 that will work just fine. These are infinite baffle design which allows them to work in a number of different enclosure sizes. My question is why in-ceiling speakers that you need to build boxes for when you have a choice of our AP650 and AP525 patio speaker which features a perfectly tuned sealed box and a unique mounting bracket that both swivels and tilts for maximum flexibility for mounting. The sealed design has our highest certified weatherproof rating. And just like in home theater you want to be able aim your tweeter at the optimum area where people will be listening. If you do decide to build an enclosure make sure you seal all the seams with weatherproof silicone including a bead of silicone along the inside of the frame so you can seal the Cutout hole.

What does a crossover do on a ceiling speaker?
Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
Hi Kent:
A Crossover does the same thing for an in-ceiling speaker as it does for any other speaker needing to use a tweeter and woofer (2 way) or Tweeter, Midrange and Woofer (3 way). The crossover is needed separate the High from the Low frequencies. You see there is a Frequency response listed for all speakers in their specifications. In the case of the ICE840WRS; Frequency response: 38 Hz-20 kHz. That is the frequency response for the speaker where the Woofer kicks in at 38 Hz and the Tweeter rolls of at 20 kHz. Somewhere between there is a crossover point that separates the two drivers. It might be at 3500 Hz so the woofer works between 38 Hz and 3500 Hz and the Tweeter works between 3500 and 20 kHz (20,000 Hz). If this were a first order crossover it would have a slope of 6 dB. A second order crossover is 12 dB, a third order crossover is 18 dB and a fourth order is 24 dB. So the 6 dB ist order Crossover starts the slope at 1 octave over the selected crossover point (3500Hz) or around 7000 Hz (1 octave above) for the High pass and around 1700 Hz (1 octave below) for the low pass. The two slopes intersect at 6 dB down at 3500 Hz. The higher (12, 18, 24 dB) the number the steeper the slope becomes. In simple terms in order to obtain a steeper slope you need a better crossover with more components. And the steeper slope usually means a better more accurate crossover. Take a look at the images of the ICE800 WRS and compare versus the ICE840WRS. The ICE800WRS has a first order 6 dB crossover which consists of a Resistor in line to the Tweeter which filters all the low frequencies an octave below the resonant frequency of the tweeter. So the tweeter needs to be protected and the woofer rolls off naturally with no protection. The ICE840WRS has a 12 dB crossover that intersects at the crossover point at 12 dB down as described above. There is a whole lot more and better descriptions on line, hopefully it helps answer your question.

Can I use these speakers for conference rooms?thank you
Customer Service • 12/17/2019, 2:17:43 PM
Hi Patrick:
Are you wiring your system 8 ohms or 70V? How many total speakers are you installing; approximate dimensions, what are your sources?
Do you need a weatherproof design?
You have a choice of of standard frame or Trim-less design. If I know a little bit more about your system I could better answer your question.
