Commercial 70V Transformers
Transforming the Power
Most 70v distributed audio systems are used in commercial environments such as supermarkets, restaurants, hospitals, and airports where dozens of speakers are powered by a single 70v amplifier and a daisy chain wiring configuration. The advantage is sound coverage over astounding distances; the disadvantage is that voltage is limited, so audio is confined to paging and background music. To improve sound quality, integrators often use what’s known as a commercial speaker transformer. This handy gadget converts the primary voltage of a PA or audio amplifier from 70v to 8 ohms or 4 ohms at the speaker and eliminates power loss caused by long-distance wire runs. The quality of the audio, however, depends on the quality of the 70v transformer. Our 70v transformers include multiple wattage taps that let you set different power levels and volume for each speaker and offer a 20Hz to 20kHz frequency response, so insertion loss is limited to 1dB. Commercial 70v transformers install easily between the amplifier and speaker and let you step up or step down voltage as needed for a truly customized commercial audio system.
